ODPA Celebrates Passage of Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act

General News,

The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2025 has passed and is expected to be signed into law by President Trump. This monumental legislation permits school meal programs to offer a greater variety of fluid milk options, which can now include flavored and regular, organic or conventional whole, reduced fat, low fat, fat free and lactose-free milk.

For more than a decade, National Milk Producers Federation, International Dairy Foods Association and state trade organizations, like the Ohio Dairy Producers Association, have been working to restore whole and reduced fat milk options in schools. ODPA applauds all of Ohio's U.S. Representatives and Senators for voting in support of the legislation.

Today we celebrate, and tomorrow we get back to work! There is still more to learn about implementing the legislation and how schools, processors and distributors will navigate the new landscape. It's important to note that the legislation makes offering whole and reduced fat milk an option, not a requirement.
